1. Why Take the Try Scuba (Pool Only) Experience?

Take a fresh look at breathing underwater for the very first time Curious about scuba diving but not quite ready to jump into the open ocean? The SSI Try Scuba (Pool Only) program is the perfect, low-pressure introduction to the underwater world. Under the direct supervision of an experienced SSI Instructor, you will learn basic diving concepts, get comfortable with the gear, and experience the weightless sensation of swimming underwater in a clear, shallow pool. It is safe, fun, and the ideal first step before deciding to dive in the ocean.

  • First Underwater Breaths: Discover the unique and thrilling sensation of breathing smoothly beneath the surface.
  • Safe & Controlled Environment: Practice at your own pace in a calm, clear swimming pool where you can stand up at any time.
  • Gear Familiarization: Learn how comfortable and easy it is to use a mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, and BCD.
  • Open to Absolute Beginners: No prior diving experience or advanced swimming skills required.

2 .Course Curriculum (Half-Day)

The experience combines a brief safety orientation on land with a fun, hands-on pool session with your instructor:

  1. Brief Safety Orientation: Basic dive rules, equalizing your ears, hand signals, and how scuba gear works.
  2. Equipment Fitting & Setup: Getting fitted with comfortable, properly sized diving gear.
  3. Pool Exploration & Fun: Breathing underwater, swimming weightlessly, and playing interactive games at shallow pool depths.

3. Prerequisites

  • Prerequisites: None! Accessible to non-divers and absolute beginners.
  • Minimum Age: 8 years old.

4. Your International Certification

  • Official digital SSI Try Scuba recognition card registered in your MySSI profile.
  • Can be easily upgraded to an open ocean dive or credited toward your SSI Open Water Diver course.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer to try scuba in the pool?

Not at all! You only need to feel comfortable in shallow water. Your instructor will be right beside you the entire time to guide and support you.

What happens if I want to dive in the ocean afterwards?

If you love your pool experience and want to explore Koh Lanta’s real coral reefs, you can easily upgrade to our Basic Diver experience or apply your credit toward the full Open Water Diver certification!
